Check out this video from Granger Community Church pastor Mark Beeson about two different philosophies of the church. Which do you think Christ's bride should be?
The answer is of course is that the Church, should be a force. The problem is which Church? The Church as the body of Christ is what the Spirit of Christ makes it. For Christ is ultimately its Progenitor and its Head. It is always a force.
The church (local) as an institution is a creation of man and is therefore a fallen thing. As we have both said here with other words there are many more “fields” than “forces” out there. More than that, many churches are ivory towers, made up of individual ivory towers. They missed the "in the world" part of the command to be in the world but not of the word. I speak as a recovering ivory tower myself. These issues go way back, to the second century. The creation of a separate clergy class, and then of the concept of special missionaries, gave the rest of us the excuse to become spiritual consumers or pew potatoes…
...ok, enough raving! I think this will end up as a longer post on my blog :)
I am, first and foremost, a child of the Most High God, created in His image and alive only by His grace.
I am also a father of two beautiful, energetic, fun girls who, fortunately, take after their mother and I try real hard to be a full-time dad and husband.
After that, I am Executive Director of Ministries for a growing church in Central Indiana. My mission in life is to help people find their way back to the God that created them and is crazy for them. Welcome to that journey!
